The Voice of Eat For Change

Consider me the nutritional equivalent of a wilderness guide. If you are intrigued by the idea of blazing your own trail to optimal health, then I’m here to direct your exploration, translate the incoming information, and help you convert your diet into functional fuel for personal change.

Though I spend most of my time studying the strange and bizarre landscape of modern nutrition, I still consider myself more advocate than authority, more facilitator than expert. I have learned enough to know that you have only one true health authority – You!

In some ways it’s funny that I’ve created for myself this living as a nutrition educator. Unlike most of my cohorts in graduate school, I did not grow up with a plethora of wholesome foods and a family that always cooked together.

I grew up eating the standard industrialized American fare of sugared cereals, soda and Kraft Macaroni and Cheese from a box. My big joke is that I was raised on antibiotics and Dr. Pepper.

But by the time I made nutrition my formal study, I already had years of dietary transformation under my belt. And it is my first-hand experiences as much as my studies that shape my professional perspective on food.

My approach is based on the belief that freshly harvested, naturally prepared whole foods are foundational for optimum health. A diet based primarily on this principle then allows for acceptance of and adaptability to variations in other dietary factors, lifestyle, life situation, and health.

I believe the challenge of healthful eating lies not in discovering on which foods humans will thrive. There is a wide body of anthropological evidence that reveals methods of eating and food preparation that have served human health for centuries. The difficulty comes in adapting this knowledge to our modern lifestyles and creating the space for our diets, our bodies and our tastes to grow towards health.
